ABOUT THE FILM

K-Number (2024), directed by Jo Seyoung, is a documentary investigating the systemic, often fraudulent, international adoption industry in South Korea between the 1960s and 1980s. Following Korean-American adoptee Mioka Miller's struggle to locate her birth family, the film reveals how fabricated, inconsistent documents and a "k-number" identification system enabled the mass export of children, many of whom were not orphans, leaving victims without proper citizenship.
